Gentse Gruut Stadsbrouwerij

Gentse Gruut Wit reimagines the classic Witbier through a traditional botanical spice blend, resulting in a distinctively aromatic profile. This turbid, yellowish-white ale eschews conventional hop bitterness for a complex herbaceous sharpness. The bouquet is defined by earthy undertones and delicate floral notes of rose petals, accented by zesty lime. On the palate, a soft, creamy sweetness from the wheat base is countered by a refreshing lemon tartness and a spicy dryness. Fine carbonation enhances a light, rounded body that finishes exceptionally clean and dry, perfectly balancing its intricate botanical character with refined elegance.

Appearance. SRM 2-3. Pale yellowish-white and very turbid with an opaque quality. Dense, off-white head with excellent retention and fine lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity with a fragrant, fruity bouquet. Distinctive earthy notes are complemented by lime zest and floral rose petals. A notable herbaceous sharpness replaces traditional hop character, while the wheat provides a soft, bready backdrop without any banana-like esters.

Taste. The initial impression of spicy dryness quickly transitions to a slight, creamy sweetness. The wheat character is prominent, delivering lemon-like acidity and a round, complex herbal flavor profile. The balance is decidedly toward the botanical and malt components, as there is no perceptible hop bitterness. The finish is short, clean, and very dry.

Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with a soft, creamy texture. High carbonation with a fine, prickly bubble. Very smooth with no alcohol warmth or astringency.
