Grunge Mumbai 1947 is a characterful English IPA that bridges tradition with an elevated hop intensity. It presents a striking copper hue and a profile defined by a significant late-addition hop presence. The double dry-hopping technique using whole leaf hops delivers a fresh, high-intensity bouquet of floral notes and subtle orange-like citrus. This aromatic freshness is anchored by a sturdy foundation of caramel malt sweetness. On the palate, a firm, assertive bitterness takes center stage, balanced by toasted and toffee-like malt depth before transitioning into a moderately dry, clean finish. It is a well-attenuated and robust representation of the style.
Appearance. Deep copper to amber color (12–14 SRM). Topped with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves consistent lacing. Generally clear, though the double dry-hopping may impart a very slight, stylistic haze.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent floral and light citrus-orange notes. The whole leaf hops add a distinctively fresh, herbal quality. Supported by a medium-low bready malt character with noticeable notes of sweet caramel and toffee. Low fruity esters are present.
Taste. Initial impression is a bold hit of floral and spicy hop flavor. High hop bitterness that is firm but not harsh. The malt profile is medium, offering toasted bread and rich caramel flavors that provide a necessary counterpoint to the hops. Fermentation is clean with a hint of English yeast fruitiness. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering, pleasant bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate to medium-high carbonation provides a crispness that enhances the dry finish. At 6% ABV, there is a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth but no astringency.
