Grunge Black Mamba is a robust and sophisticated Foreign Extra Stout that showcases the intricate complexity of seven distinct malts. The sensory journey begins with an aromatic profile dominated by deep espresso coffee and dark chocolate, layered with subtle nuances of dried fruits and nuts. In the glass, it presents an intense black color crowned by a persistent, tan-to-brown head. The palate is characterized by a full-bodied, velvety texture where roasted grain flavors and cocoa harmonize with a gentle malt sweetness. Despite its strength, the bitterness remains smooth and integrated, culminating in a creamy, lingering finish reminiscent of mocha and toasted malt.
Appearance. Intense black (35-40 SRM) and opaque. Features a large, long-lasting brownish head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of roasted malts, delivering prominent notes of dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. Moderate esters suggestive of dried fruit and a light nuttiness are present, supported by a clean, sweet malt background with no detectable hop aroma.
Taste. Rich initial malt impression of dark cocoa and toasted grains. The roast character is prominent but lacks harshness or acridity. Medium-low fruity esters complement the malt. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as soft, balancing the residual malt sweetness. The finish is moderately dry with a pleasant, lingering aftertaste of chocolate and espresso.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and robust with a notably creamy and smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth rather than hot.
