The Crux offers a vibrant, modern interpretation of a German Pils, bridging continental tradition with vibrant New World hops. A foundation of authentic Bohemian pilsner malt provides a crisp, grainy, cracker-like base that supports an assertive aromatic profile. The infusion of Amarillo, Motueka, and Bravo hops elevates the experience, introducing distinct layers of lime zest, grapefruit, and sweet orange over the classic lager structure. This beer is exceptionally clean and dry, delivering a sharp, refreshing bitterness that lingers pleasantly. It is a precise, high-clarity lager that maintains its European heritage while showcasing a bright, fruit-forward hop complexity.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow (2–4 SRM); brilliant clarity with a creamy, long-lasting white head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. Moderately high intensity featuring forward notes of lime and lemon zest from Motueka, complemented by grapefruit esters from Amarillo. Underlying this is a clean, grainy, toasted cracker malt character from the Bohemian pilsner malt. Fermentation is very clean with no sulfur or diacetyl.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness of honey and light crackers is quickly overtaken by a firm hop bitterness. Flavors of citrus peel and tropical fruit follow the aroma, driven by Bravo and Motueka hops. The balance is decidedly bitter and crisp, leading to a bone-dry, refreshing finish with a lingering minerally snap.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation that provides a prickly, refreshing sensation. Very crisp and clean with no astringency; a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present at 5% ABV.
