Gross / North Brewing PHAT
This collaboration Double IPA delivers an intense sensory experience driven by a massive double dry-hopping of Amarillo, Galaxy, and Ekuanot. The aroma is dominated by tropical passion fruit and peach from the Galaxy, layered with the distinct orange citrus of Amarillo and the herbal complexity of Ekuanot. Despite its huge and thick moniker, it maintains the requisite drinkability of the style, balancing a sturdy 8% ABV with a firm bitterness. The palate is a lush landscape of stone fruit and resinous pine, supported by a clean, neutral malt base that allows the hop character to remain the undisputed protagonist.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper; persistent, off-white, creamy head with excellent lacing; hazy to nearly opaque, reflecting its double dry-hopped nature.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring prominent notes of passion fruit, peach, and citrus orange. Underlying layers of lime zest and green herbs are present, supported by a very low, neutral grainy malt scent and a clean fermentation profile with minimal esters.
Taste. Bold initial impression of tropical fruit and resinous pine. Mid-palate reveals distinct flavors of apricot and grapefruit pith. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but smooth, avoiding harshness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering hop-saturated aftertaste of citrus oils and light pine needles.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy texture that feels substantial on the palate. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth provides a pleasant glow without being solventy or hot.
