Gravity Well Brewing Co Vacuum Decay

Vacuum Decay presents as a decadent and immensely rich Imperial Stout, achieving a luxurious viscosity through a double-mashing process. The sensory experience is dominated by the opulent integration of oily toasted coconut and the earthy, bittersweet depth of raw cacao nibs. Fragrant vanilla beans weave through the profile, softening the intense roasted malt character into notes of dark chocolate cake and espresso. While the high alcohol content provides a significant, smooth warmth, the primary focus remains on the thick, velvety texture and the dessert-like interplay of adjuncts. It is an unapologetically sweet and intense expression of the style, finishing with lingering notes of tropical nuttiness and dark sugar.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, creamy, dark mocha-colored head that shows moderate retention. Significant viscosity and visible legs are apparent on the glass due to the high gravity and alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity and profoundly complex. Immediate waves of toasted coconut and sweet vanilla bean are supported by a base of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee. There is a secondary layer of dark fruit esters, specifically prunes and raisins, alongside a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol presence. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the roasted grain and adjuncts to dominate.
Taste. The initial impression is sweet and intensely rich, featuring heavy flavors of dark chocolate, toasted coconut, and creamy vanilla. The double-mash malt base provides deep toasted bread and caramel notes that balance the aggressive roast. Bitterness is firm but largely perceived as lower due to the high residual sweetness and adjunct oils. The finish is long and luxurious, with lingering notes of cocoa and a smooth, warming alcohol glow.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture that heavily coats the palate. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's significant weight and silkiness. Noticeable alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and non-solventy.
