Shatterheart delivers a vibrant, modern expression of the American IPA, focusing on the lean and punchy characteristics of the West Coast tradition. The sensory experience is defined by an intense hop profile; Citra provides layers of zesty grapefruit and tropical lime, while Nelson Sauvin introduces distinctive notes of crushed white grapes and gooseberry. A minimalist pale malt foundation ensures the beer remains exceptionally crisp and dry, allowing the firm bitterness to finish clean without cloying sweetness. This bright, aromatically charged ale balances resinous depth with contemporary fruit complexity, resulting in a refreshing and highly directed hop showcase.
Appearance. Deep gold (approx. 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent white head that exhibits excellent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, and crushed white wine grapes. A low, clean, grainy-sweet malt character supports the hop presentation. Clean fermentation profile with no significant yeast esters.
Taste. High hop flavor mirroring the aroma with layers of citrus rind and tropical fruit. Low, cracker-like malt flavor provides a neutral base. Bitterness is firm and assertive but remains clean. The finish is notably dry and crisp with a lingering, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a refreshing prickle on the tongue. Very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
