Binary Star Oblivion is an assertive Double IPA that showcases an intense, modern hop profile. The deliberate use of Citra and Mosaic provides a foundational explosion of bright grapefruit and ripe berries, while Strata adds deep layers of passionfruit and a subtle resinous dankness. The newcomer NZH-109 hop elevates the experience with vibrant tropical stone fruit and lime zest. Despite its 8.4% strength, the beer maintains a lean, supportive malt backbone that stays in the background. The result is a pungent, highly aromatic sensory experience with a firm, clean bitterness and a dry finish that emphasizes hop saturation over sweetness.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM). Large, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing. Generally clear, though a light, hop-derived haze is acceptable.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward bouquet featuring passionfruit, mango, and pink grapefruit. Secondary notes of blueberry, pine resin, and a distinct tropical dankness. Very low, neutral-grainy malt in the background with a clean fermentation profile and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of tropical fruit and citrus oils. Malt flavor is low and unobtrusive, providing a soft, bready platform. Bitterness is high and firm but remains clean and smooth. Complexity builds with layers of berry and stone fruit, finishing very dry with a long, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate-high carbonation. Noticeable and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but restrained. Minimal hop-derived astringency.
