NEIPA - New England IPA 6.5 º
Antiquing? is a vibrant Hazy IPA that exemplifies the juicy sub-style, centering on the classic synergy of Citra and Simcoe hops. By utilizing both T90 pellets and concentrated cryo hops, the aromatic profile explodes with intense layers of pink grapefruit, ripe mango, and resinous pine. A heavy-handed addition of flaked grains yields an exceptionally thick and chewy texture that glides across the palate. The sensory experience is defined by a soft, pillowy mouthfeel and a restrained bitterness that allows the saturated tropical fruit flavors to dominate a lush, slightly sweet finish. It is a modern, opaque expression of hop-forward craftsmanship.
Appearance. Color is deep straw to pale gold (4-6 SRM) with a characteristically opaque, hazy appearance that exhibits a luminous glow. It is topped by a dense, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and thick, decorative lacing.
Aroma. The aroma is high-intensity and pungently hop-forward, dominated by bright citrus zest and tropical fruit notes of mango and passion fruit from the Citra. This is complemented by an underlying earthy, piney, and slight berry-like depth from the Simcoe. Malt character is subtle, providing a clean, bready background, while fermentation esters remain neutral to lightly fruity.
Taste. Initial flavors are a massive wave of tropical stone fruit and sweet grapefruit. The mid-palate reveals a soft, grainy malt sweetness that balances the hop saturation. Bitterness is low to moderate and notably smooth, lacking any harsh hop burn. The Simcoe adds a sophisticated resinous touch to the otherwise juice-like fruit profile. The finish is soft and off-dry with a lingering fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, extra thick and chewy texture. Carbonation is moderate, contributing to a soft, pillowy sensation. There is a very faint, well-integrated alcohol warmth, but no astringency or harshness.
