This Double IPA captures the intensity of the Surazo winds through a focused showcase of Strata hops. It pours with a persistent haze, radiating tropical energy and a lush, saturated profile. The sensory experience is dominated by high-intensity hop aromatics, specifically passion fruit, dank herbal notes, and bright strawberry, layered over a soft, supportive malt base. Despite its 8% ABV, the palate remains remarkably drinkable with a clean, dry finish. The bitterness is firm but smooth, balancing the lush fruitiness with a resinous grip, while a subtle alcohol warmth enhances the medium-full body without ever becoming solventy or harsh.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-10 SRM). Features a significant, persistent haze and a thick, creamy, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent Strata characteristics of passion fruit, sweet melon, and a distinctive dank, resinous undertone. Background notes of citrus zest and strawberry are present. Malt is neutral and grainy, providing a quiet foundation for the hops. Clean fermentation profile with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Powerful hop-forward impact mirroring the aroma with layers of tropical fruit and pine. Malt flavor is low, providing a soft, bready support that allows the hops to lead. Bitterness is high and firm but lacks harshness, leading into a dry, resinous finish. The aftertaste lingers with a pleasant combination of grapefruit pith and herbal spice.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture typical of the hazy style. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-restrained alcohol warmth provides a gentle glow. No hop-derived astringency is present.
