This Imperial Flanders Red Ale presents a masterclass in wood-aged complexity, pouring a deep burgundy with a tan head. The prolonged thirty-one-month maturation in French oak and Chilean Alerce foudres imparts sophisticated tannins and subtle resinous wood notes that intertwine with a vibrant, lactic sourness. Intense aromas of macerated cherries, red currants, and balsamic-like dark fruits dominate, underpinned by a soft, toasty malt backbone. On the palate, the refermentation with cherries provides a bright acidity and depth, balanced by a medium-full body and warming alcohol. The finish is dry, wine-like, and elegantly tannic, reflecting a harmonious marriage of fruit, fermentation, and time.

Appearance. Deep burgundy to reddish-brown in color (15-18 SRM). The head is pale tan with average retention and light lacing. Clarity is good, though a slight haze from cherry refermentation may be present.

Aroma. High intensity complex fruity-sour profile. Prominent scents of black cherries, red currants, and plums are layered over a moderate toasty malt character with hints of chocolate. Fermentation provides a moderate acetic/balsamic sharpness and lactic tartness. The wood maturation contributes low vanilla from the oak and a unique resinous, spicy note from the Alerce foudres. No hop aroma.

Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, refreshing sourness balanced by a soft, toasty-rich malt backbone. Intense cherry flavor dominates the mid-palate alongside notes of fruit leather and red wine. Bitterness is low and restrained, with structure provided by prickly acidity and wood tannins. The finish is dry and wine-like, with a lingering complexity of dark fruit and balsamic notes. No hop flavor.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, notably weightier than standard versions. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Moderate astringency from tannins and acidity creates a crisp, lingering finish.
