This Hazy IPA captures the vibrant, tropical essence of a premium New Zealand hop blend. At its heart, Nelson Sauvin delivers signature notes of crushed white grapes and gooseberry, seamlessly intertwined with the bright lime zest and mojito-like citrus of Motueka. Rakau completes the sensory profile with lush layers of stone fruit, reminiscent of ripe apricot and peach. The experience is underscored by a soft, bready malt base that provides a pillowy foundation for the intense hop saturation. With its signature 'fuzzy' texture and lively carbonation, it offers a plush, juicy mouthfeel that leads into a smooth, fruit-forward finish without any lingering bitterness.
Appearance. Color is a glowing straw to pale gold (4-6 SRM). It possesses a deep, opaque haze with a vibrant shine. The head is thick, white, and meringue-like, showing excellent retention and leaving consistent lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High-intensity hop aroma dominated by New Zealand character: white wine grapes, fresh lime, and juicy stone fruits. Subtle background notes of grainy, bready malt are present but secondary. Fermentation is clean with light tropical esters that complement the hop profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical juice. Intense flavors of gooseberry, lime, and apricot dominate the palate. Malt flavor is low and lightly bready, providing balance without sweetness. Bitterness is low to moderate and very soft, never sharp. The finish is off-dry and exceptionally smooth with a lingering citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture often described as 'fuzzy' or plush. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a lively lift that prevents the beer from feeling heavy. There is no hop harshness or astringency, and alcohol warmth is very light.
