This Ordinary Bitter presents a robust sensory profile that balances a rich malt backbone with an assertive hop presence. Pouring a deep amber with brilliant clarity, it offers an inviting bouquet of bready, biscuity malt and subtle toasted caramel, complemented by a pronounced earthy and floral hop aroma. On the palate, the malty character delivers layers of biscuit and light toffee, quickly met by a firm, lingering bitterness that defines its traditional British roots. Despite its sessionable intent, the slightly elevated ABV adds a touch more body and presence than typical examples, finishing crisp and dry. It remains dangerously drinkable, showcasing a harmonious blend of heritage malt and hop-forward intensity.
Appearance. Light copper to deep amber (SRM 10-14). Brilliant clarity with a moderate, off-white head that shows fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring distinct bready, biscuity, and light caramel notes. Hop aroma is moderate to high for the style, exhibiting earthy, resiny, and floral qualities. Low to moderate fruity esters are present, with no diacetyl.
Taste. Initial bready and toasty malt flavor followed by a medium-high hop bitterness. Hop flavors are earthy and floral. The balance is decidedly bitter, though supported by a rich malt base. The finish is dry with a lingering, clean bitterness and moderate fruity esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Despite the sessionable style, there is a very light alcohol warmth and a smooth, non-astringent mouthfeel.
