This formidable American IPA presents an obsidian depth, merging the spicy complexity of malted and crystal rye with a robust hop profile. Fermented with Norwegian Voss Kveik yeast, it displays a clean yet assertive character that allows the citrus and pine resin notes of Simcoe, Cascade, Citra, and Chinook to pierce through. A specialized addition of pine terpene intensifies the forest-like aroma, while the dark malts provide a backdrop of subtle roast without overshadowing the bold, lingering bitterness. The result is a viscous, resinous experience where earthy spice meets sharp, grapefruit-led citrus in a formidable, high-gravity frame.

Appearance. Obsidian black and opaque (well beyond the typical 40 SRM). Topped by a dense, tan, creamy head with excellent persistence and thick lacing.

Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma dominated by resinous pine, grapefruit, and orange zest. Distinctive spicy rye notes blend with a background of subtle cocoa and toasted grain. Fermentation character is clean with very light orange esters from the Voss Kveik yeast.

Taste. High bitterness dominates the initial impression, followed by a sharp, spicy rye character. Prominent hop flavors of resinous pine and citrus peel from Citra and Chinook. The malt profile adds a light toasted quality without being overly acrid. Finishes very dry and lingering with a crisp, hoppy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable slickness and creaminess attributed to the rye content. Moderate carbonation. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
