Garage Project Lost & Found is a monumental American Stout, a masterful blend of one, three, and eight-year-old bourbon and whiskey barrel-aged stouts. The nose is a powerhouse of espresso and bittersweet chocolate, interwoven with deep threads of charred oak, vanilla, and the spirituous heat of aged whiskey. On the palate, intense roasted malts deliver layers of dark cocoa and burnt sugar, balanced by a firm hop bitterness and subtle resiny notes typical of the style. The extended maturation provides a velvet-like complexity and an exceptionally long, warming finish, showcasing the absolute pinnacle of pure, unadulterated barrel character without the use of adjuncts.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a thick, persistent head of deep tan to light brown foam that leaves heavy lacing on the glass and exhibits high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity roasted aroma featuring dark chocolate, burnt espresso, and charcoal. This is layered with significant barrel-derived notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and whiskey. A low resiny hop aroma is present, alongside moderate dark fruit esters and a noticeable, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and intensely roasted, tasting of bittersweet chocolate and heavy-roast coffee beans. Mid-palate reveals complex barrel layers of caramel, oak tannins, and spirituous whiskey. Bitterness is firm and assertive, supported by a low citrusy hop flavor. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering charred quality and significant, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a creamy, coating texture. Carbonation is moderate. A strong but smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, accompanied by a light, roast-derived astringency that adds structure to the finish.
