This American Barleywine is a massive, barrel-aged leviathan that has matured for five years in bourbon oak barrels. The aroma is a sophisticated marriage of rich, bready malt and mellowed American hops, layered with heavy notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and charred oak from the wood. On the palate, the 14% ABV delivers a profound but smooth warmth, supporting flavors of sticky toffee, dark fruit esters, and a lingering resinous hop bitterness that has softened over time. It is a viscous, contemplative sipper where the intense bourbon character meets the deep, structural malt profile of the original Hellbender.

Appearance. Deep copper to light brown with distinct ruby highlights (18 SRM). The off-white to light tan head is moderately low with poor retention due to high alcohol content. Excellent clarity with visible legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity featuring rich bready and light caramel malt richness alongside matured American hop notes of citrus and resin. Strong secondary aromas of bourbon-soaked oak, vanilla, and toasted coconut are present, supported by moderate esters of dried plum and raisin and a clean, warming alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial malt sweetness provides flavors of toffee and bread, quickly followed by a moderately strong hop bitterness that has been rounded by age. Significant bourbon oak character brings vanilla and char to the mid-palate. Low esters of dark fruit lead into a long, warming finish that remains malty but retains a structural, bitter balance.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present without being solventy or burning. Low oak-derived astringency.
