Borg is an intensely aromatic Double IPA that showcases a modern, lupulin-forward profile. Built on a super pale malt base with a significant 30% oat addition, it presents a remarkably soft and creamy texture. The hop profile is driven by a potent trio: Nelson Sauvin provides distinct notes of white grape and crushed gooseberry, while Strata and Strata CGX contribute pungent layers of passion fruit and a signature sweet cannabis dankness. Simcoe Cryo rounds out the experience with bright orange zest and resinous depth. The result is a saturating hop experience with a smooth, well-integrated 8% ABV that emphasizes tropical fruit over harsh bitterness.
Appearance. SRM 3-4, very pale straw to light gold. Persistent, thick, creamy white head with excellent lacing. Typically features a pronounced haze consistent with a high oat grist, though retaining a luminous quality.
Aroma. High to intense hop aroma. Dominant notes of passion fruit, ripe oranges, and white wine grapes. A secondary, complex dankness resembling sweet cannabis and resin is evident. Background malt is neutral, clean, and slightly grainy, allowing the hops to remain the focal point.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and citrus, specifically passion fruit and orange oil. Mid-palette reveals the sophisticated white grape character of the hops. Bitterness is firm and assertive but remains smooth and free of harshness. The malt provides a soft, bready support without caramel sweetness. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering, resinous fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and silkiness derived from the heavy use of oats. Carbonation is moderate. Displays a gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth that enhances the fullness without becoming solventy or sharp.
