Crypt Keeper is a vibrant Double IPA that showcases a sophisticated interplay of New World hops. The inclusion of Idaho 7 drives a deep, resinous intensity paired with ripe stone fruit and tropical notes, while Riwaka contributes bright layers of zesty pink grapefruit and a distinct herbal edge. At 8% ABV, the beer strikes a balance between a lush, fruity sweetness and a clean, firm bitterness that prevents the palate from becoming cloying. Expect a saturated sensory experience where juicy exotic fruit flavors dominate, backed by a lean malt profile that ensures the hop character remains the undisputed protagonist from start to finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (8-10 SRM) with a slight, modern haze. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring pungent pink grapefruit and tropical fruit. Strong notes of ripe apricot and peach from the Idaho 7 are complemented by the signature herbal spice and passionfruit of Riwaka. Malt is neutral and grainy in the background, with a clean fermentation profile and a very subtle alcohol sweetness.
Taste. Initial wave of juicy exotic fruits followed by sharp pink grapefruit and stone fruit. Idaho 7 provides a resinous backbone while Riwaka offers an earthy, herbal complexity. Bitterness is firm and moderately high (approx. 70 IBU) but smooth, cutting through the light fruity sweetness. The malt provides a soft, bready support without caramel interference. Finishes medium-dry and clean with a lingering citrus-peel bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp lift. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no detectable hop astringency.
