Galea Craft Beers

Berry & Bean by Galea Craft Beers is an intriguing Straight Sour Beer that uses a blondish malt base to spotlight the inclusion of Cascara from Malawi. The sensory profile is defined by a sharp, clean lactic acidity that melds seamlessly with the unique earthy and dried-fruit character of the coffee berries. Aromas of dark cherry, hibiscus, and raisin are supported by a crisp, crackery malt backbone. On the palate, the lemony tartness is punchy yet balanced, leading into a complex mid-palate of herbal tea and subtle tobacco notes derived from the Cascara skins. It finishes remarkably dry and effervescent, offering a sophisticated, fruit-forward acidity.

Appearance. Straw to pale gold (SRM 3-4) with a slight haze. Features a large, dense white head with poor retention and moderate effervescence.

Aroma. High intensity of clean lactic sourness. Moderate fruity esters of lemon and tart apple are complemented by distinctive Cascara notes of dried cherry, raisin, and an earthy, tea-like quality. Malt is low and crackery; no hop aroma is present.

Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean lactic sourness. Malt provides a light bready and grainy support. Undetectable hop bitterness and flavor. The Cascara adds layers of tart dark fruit and a slight herbal complexity. The finish is dry and crisp with lingering lemony acidity and a clean fermentation profile.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high carbonation. Displays a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a crisp, biting acidity. A very light tannic astringency from the coffee berries adds structure.
