Lava Lamp is a vibrant Red IPA that balances a robust, toasty malt backbone with a modern New Zealand hop profile. Sourced from Freestyle, these hops deliver a high-intensity bouquet of bright citrus, ripe tropical fruit, and a distinct layer of resinous pine. The deep amber-red hue and creamy head lead into a complex palate where caramel and toasted malt flavors support an assertive bitterness. This 7% ABV ale showcases the Freestyle hop character, finishing dry and crisp with a lingering touch of forest floor and grapefruit pith, epitomizing the modern Specialty IPA style.
Appearance. Deep amber to reddish-copper (14–17 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a persistent, creamy off-white head that leaves dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring notes of grapefruit, passionfruit, and mango from the NZ hops, layered over a resinous pine and damp earth character. Moderate malt presence of toasted bread and light caramel.
Taste. Bold initial bitterness followed by citrus zest and tropical fruit flavors. The malt profile provides a solid foundation of toasted biscuit and sweet caramel without being cloying. High bitterness is well-supported by the malt and alcohol. Finish is dry with a lingering resinous and pithy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present.
