This decadent Imperial Stout presents a lush sensory journey inspired by German Chocolate Cake. At a robust 14% ABV, it delivers an intense profile dominated by a massive addition of coconut and cocoa nibs. The aroma is a rich tapestry of toasted coconut, sweet milk chocolate, and silky vanilla that softens the underlying roasted malt character. On the palate, a thick, dessert-like sweetness reveals layers of dark cocoa and creamy vanilla, harmonizing with the natural oils of the coconut. The finish is long and indulgent, balanced by a gentle espresso-like roast and a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, dark brown head that shows moderate retention, leaving oily legs on the glass due to the high alcohol and coconut content.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring prominent toasted coconut, sweet milk chocolate, and marshmallow-like vanilla. Beneath the adjuncts lies a deep base of espresso, dark fruit esters like raisins, and a soft, clean alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is very sweet and rich. Dominant flavors of milk chocolate from cocoa nibs and luscious coconut lead into a complex middle of vanilla and dark-roasted malts. Low hop bitterness is countered by the heavy malt backbone. The finish is lingering and sweet, reminiscent of liquid cake.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the high gravity.
