This Black IPA delivers a striking sensory contrast, merging the depth of dark malts with a vibrant, modern hop profile. The double dry-hopped intensity is led by a pungent trifecta of hops: Centennial and Chinook provide a classic resinous pine and grapefruit foundation, while Citra elevates the profile with bright tropical and citrus top notes. Beneath the hop-forward assault lies a refined malt backbone, offering subtle hints of cold-brew coffee and dark chocolate without the abrasive bitterness of heavy roasting. It drinks with the lean agility of an American IPA, finishing bone-dry and crisp, leaving a lingering trail of citrus zest and forest floor.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown to black in color (35 SRM). Topped with a persistent, creamy, light tan head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, resinous pine, and tropical mango. A supporting low malt character provides clean hints of dark chocolate and toasted bread. Fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward and bitter, showing flavors of citrus zest and forest resin. The malt flavor is low to medium, emphasizing restrained chocolate and a touch of light coffee without burnt or ashy harshness. Medium-high bitterness is firm but smooth, leading to a very dry, clean finish with a lingering resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to high. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, and astringency from dark malts is very low.
