This Hazy IPA radiates a vibrant, tropical energy, amplified by the addition of grapefruit and calamansi juice. The base is smooth and pillowy, providing a plush stage for the Idaho Gem hops to showcase their signature cherry and citrus notes, while the experimental HBC582 adds complex layers of red berries and intense tropical fruit. The aroma is an explosion of freshly squeezed citrus and stone fruit, underscored by a light, bready malt presence. On the palate, the real fruit juice integration enhances the natural juiciness of the style, finishing with a restrained bitterness and an off-dry, citrus-laden aftertaste that emphasizes the bright character of the hops.
Appearance. SRM 4-6; pale gold with a distinctive orange hue. Opaque with a characteristic hazy shine. Thick, rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and beautiful lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of grapefruit zest and tart calamansi, interwoven with stone fruit, red berry, and tropical mango from the Idaho Gem and HBC582 hops. Lightly bready and grainy malt in the background; clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of juicy citrus flesh. High hop flavor of grapefruit, lime-like calamansi, and candied red fruits. Low to medium-high perceived bitterness that is well-masked by a soft, grainy malt backbone. Finishes off-dry and smooth with a lingering citrus and berry fruitiness without harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, plush texture. Moderate carbonation. Very smooth with a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth and no acidic twang or astringency.
