Master Blend #02 is a monumental Imperial Stout, presenting a masterful synthesis of long-boiled intensity and complex barrel aging. The sensory journey begins with an overwhelming aroma of dark chocolate and espresso, immediately layered with the nutty, tropical richness of toasted coconut. The marriage of bourbon barrels and Jamaican rum barrels from the Samiec Alfa component imparts sophisticated notes of spicy vanilla, charred oak, and dark molasses. On the palate, the beer is viscous and decadent, showcasing deep layers of black licorice, dried figs, and roasted grain. The toasted coconut persists through the finish, which is long, velvety, and characterized by a well-integrated, spirit-like warmth.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM) with a thick, creamy, deep-tan head. Due to the high alcohol content and coconut oils, head retention is moderate to low, exhibiting prominent legs or tears on the glass as it is swirled.
Aroma. High intensity. A complex bouquet of roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate, and heavy toasted coconut. Prominent barrel character features vanilla, caramel, and spicy rum esters. Subtle notes of dark fruits like prunes and raisins emerge as the beer warms, with no perceptible hop aroma.
Taste. Intense initial impression of roasted grain and cocoa. The mid-palate is dominated by the nutty sweetness of toasted coconut and rich caramel from the bourbon barrels. Jamaican rum contributes spicy molasses and oak depth. Bitterness is moderate-high but balanced by significant residual sweetness and a syrupy texture. The finish is lingering with notes of dark chocolate and pleasant alcohol.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied, chewy, and luscious. Low carbonation enhances the velvety, mouth-coating texture. Significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and noticeable, reflecting the high gravity, but remains well-integrated without being sharp or solventy.
