This Imperial American Porter, a collaboration with Malmö Meadery, presents an opulent sensory journey defined by its massive 16% ABV and 36° Plato gravity. The profile is dominated by the rich, earthy sweetness of forest honey and the toasted depth of hazelnuts. Aging in rye whiskey barrels imparts a spicy oak character and distinct vanilla notes that intertwine with the intense, freshly roasted HAYB coffee. Dark chocolate and caramel malts provide a decadent foundation, while the high alcohol content provides a deep, integrated warmth. This is a viscous, dessert-like experience where the complexity of honey and barrel spice harmonizes with a robust roasted malt backbone.
Appearance. Opaque, midnight black (SRM 40+). Pours with a thin, dark tan head that dissipates quickly into a persistent oily ring, leaving heavy legs on the glass due to high viscosity and alcohol.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent bouquet of spicy rye whiskey, charred oak, and vanilla. This is layered over rich HAYB coffee and toasted hazelnuts. Deep honey sweetness with earthy, floral undertones blends with dark chocolate and espresso malt notes. Low fruity esters of dried dark fruits like plum or fig.
Taste. Bold and multifaceted. Initial impression is of dense forest honey and rich chocolate malt sweetness. The mid-palate reveals layers of creamy hazelnuts and bitter HAYB coffee that balances the residual sugars. Rye whiskey barrel aging adds a peppery spice and wood tannin. Bitterness is moderate but perceived as low due to the massive body. The finish is long, sweet, and warming with lingering notes of mocha and oak.
Mouthfeel. Full, thick, and viscous body with a syrupy texture. Carbonation is low. Significant alcohol warmth is present but smooth rather than sharp. Very creamy with no noticeable astringency despite the heavy roast.
