Strong Ale 6.3 º 52 IBU
Fuller’s 1845 is a quintessential British Strong Ale that pours a deep, clear reddish-brown, a testament to its hundred-day maturation process. The sensory profile is headlined by a complex, sweet fruitcake aroma, blending rich yeast-driven esters with bright orange zest and deep caramel. On the palate, it offers a luxurious, full-bodied experience where toasted malt flavors meet decadent layers of dark chocolate, raisins, and a hint of roasted coffee. Despite its initial malty richness and liquor-like depth, the beer transitions into a sophisticated dry finish, balanced by a firm English hop bitterness that cleanses the palate for the next sip.
Appearance. Deep reddish-brown color (approximately 18–22 SRM). It supports a moderate, cream-colored head with average retention and light lacing. The beer is generally clear, though bottle-conditioning may introduce a very slight, faint haze if the sediment is disturbed.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich, malty-sweet foundation of toffee and toasted bread. Prominent dried-fruit esters evoke raisins and fruitcake, layered with a distinctive orange citrus note. Hop aroma is low to moderate, displaying traditional earthy and floral qualities, while a clean alcohol note adds depth without being solventy.
Taste. The flavor is dominated by a medium-high malt character featuring nutty, toasted grain, and subtle chocolate and coffee notes. Complex fruitiness is evident, focusing on raisins and plum. While the initial impression is sweet, the balance is maintained by a moderate hop bitterness, leading to a medium-dry and lingering finish with no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full, chewy body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, characteristic of its bottle-conditioned nature. A pleasant, gentle alcohol warmth is evident, contributing to the beer’s substantial and rounded feel.
