Surfs Up is an expressive Hazy IPA from Berlin-based brewery Fuerst Wiacek, showcasing a vibrant interplay between Citra and Motueka hops. The sensory profile opens with an intense aromatic burst of lime zest and mojito-like citrus from the Motueka, layered over the tropical mango and grapefruit notes characteristic of Citra. Its texture is remarkably soft and pillowy, a result of a carefully managed grist that supports a juicy, fruit-forward palate without the sharp bitterness of traditional IPAs. The finish is clean and off-dry, allowing the bright citrus oils and stone fruit esters to linger delicately against a subtle, bready malt background.
Appearance. SRM 3-5. Deep straw to light yellow in color with an opaque, hazy glow. Features a dense, meringue-like white head with excellent retention and thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by fresh lime peel, lemon zest, and tropical passionfruit. Secondary notes of crushed gooseberry and sweet grapefruit emerge over a neutral, lightly bready, and doughy malt base. Clean fermentation with subtle stone fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of juicy tropical fruit and bright citrus. Prominent flavors of lime, mango, and peach follow the aroma. Malt flavor is low and bready, providing a soft foundation. Bitterness is low to moderate and well-integrated, never harsh. The finish is smooth and off-dry with a lingering citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a soft, rounded, and silky texture. Carbonation is moderate. No astringency or hop burn is present, and there is a very light, well-hidden alcohol warmth.
