This Imperial Stout presents an imposing sensory profile defined by its 12% strength and intricate barrel treatment. The influence of French Whiskey and both All Grain and Single Malt Gouden Carolus Whiskey from Molenberg stokerij introduces a layered spirit character, weaving notes of toasted oak, vanillin, and spicy grain into a massive malt backbone. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso merge with dark fruit esters like raisin and plum. On the palate, the roast intensity is tempered by whiskey-driven warmth and a rich, velvety texture. A firm bitterness balances the residual sweetness, resulting in a complex, lingering finish that highlights the harmony between dark grains and refined spirit.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a dense, dark tan head that shows moderate retention and leaves oily legs on the glass, indicative of its high viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of charred oak, vanilla, and peppery spirit from the whiskey barrels. Deep roasted malt provides notes of dark chocolate, black licorice, and espresso, complemented by moderate dark fruit esters of prune and fig.

Taste. Initial impact of rich bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee. The whiskey aging adds a distinct maltiness and warmth, alongside hints of toasted grain and toasted wood. Medium-high bitterness persists but is softened by a moderately sweet, viscous malt body. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering vinous quality and deep roast.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and luscious with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and well-integrated into the massive body.
