Fremont Brewing Baxter
Fremont Brewing’s Baxter is a vibrant Cold IPA that showcases a modern, lean sensory profile. Utilizing a base of 2-Row Pale and Pilsner malts reinforced with Flaked Corn, the beer provides a crisp, cracker-like canvas for a punchy hop trio. Intense aromatics of mango, pineapple, and zesty citrus from Citra and Centennial hops dominate the foreground, while Strata introduces distinct melon and resinous pine. The use of Citra Cryo ensures a saturated hop flavor that remains bright and clean. It drinks with a refreshing, lager-like precision, finishing very dry with a firm bitterness that defines this contemporary American IPA.
Appearance. Pale gold (4-6 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, frothy white head that shows good persistence and leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of tropical mango, pineapple, and citrus. Subtle herbal and pine resin undertones are present alongside a light melon character. Malt is low, presenting as clean, grainy, and slightly cracker-like.
Taste. Immediate hop-forward impression of citrus and tropical fruit. Hop flavors of pineapple and resinous pine are supported by a very low, clean maltiness. Medium-high bitterness (60 IBU) is firm and clean, leading into a very dry, crisp finish. The aftertaste is hoppy with lingering notes of grapefruit peel and melon.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the refreshing quality. Provides a very light, clean alcohol warmth that is well-integrated.
