This Double IPA from FrauGruber showcases a saturated hop profile driven by the synergy of Citra, Mosaic, and Strata. It opens with an intense wave of tropical passion fruit, ripe mango, and bright citrus zest. The hop character is deeply layered, offering nuanced notes of dank resin and sweet berry against a lean, neutral malt backdrop. Despite its 8.2% ABV, the beer remains exceptionally drinkable with a clean, dry finish. Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6-8 SRM). Topped by a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing. Slight haze is present, consistent with modern hop-heavy examples.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring heavy tropical fruit (mango, pineapple), bright citrus (grapefruit), and a distinct dank, resinous edge from the Strata hops. Low, neutral, grainy malt presence serves as a backdrop. Fermentation is clean with very light fruity esters and no solventy alcohol notes.
Taste. High hop flavor mirroring the aroma with layers of citrus, stone fruit, and berry. Bitterness is medium-high—firm yet smooth and entirely lacking harshness. The malt is supportive and soft, providing a clean, cracker-like foundation. It finishes dry to medium-dry with a long, lingering hoppy and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. Features a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth that is pleasant rather than burning. Devoid of any hop-derived astringency.
