Frankies Brett Pitt is an evocative Brett Beer that balances the rustic complexity of an eighteen-month barrel maturation with a vibrant tropical fruit profile. The extended aging with Brettanomyces introduces a sophisticated layer of funk, characterized by notes of wet hay and earthy leather, which perfectly offsets the aromatic intensity of pink guava and mango. Despite its low alcohol content, the beer offers significant depth; the wild yeast has scoured the sugars to create a bone-dry palate. The result is a highly refreshing, multifaceted sour ale where the oak’s subtle influence provides a structured backbone to the lush, exotic fruit flavors.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, pale golden to soft amber (5-7 SRM) with a fine-beaded white head that dissipates somewhat quickly, leaving light lacing. Slight turbidity is present due to the addition of pink guava and mango.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex bouquet of funky Brettanomyces, manifesting as barnyard, horse blanket, and aged wood. This is layered with powerful tropical fruit esters of ripe mango and floral pink guava, along with a faint, clean acidic prickle.
Taste. The initial impression is brightly tart and fruit-forward, showcasing intense mango and tropical guava flavors. The malt remains in the background as a neutral, cracker-like support. Fermentation character is dominant, featuring a dry, funky complexity and a light, non-lactic acidity. The finish is extremely dry and crisp with a lingering earthy funk and a touch of fruit skin tannin.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied and highly attenuated with a brisk, moderate to high carbonation that enhances the perceived acidity. No alcohol warmth is present, and the beer finishes clean without any cloying sweetness or heavy astringency.
