Stet captures the essence of a classic Düsseldorf-style Altbier, presenting a refined balance between assertive bitterness and elegant malt depth. The sensory experience is anchored by a rich, toasted malt core reminiscent of fresh-baked bread crusts and hazelnut, a profile derived from traditional German base malts. Despite its ale origins, an extensive eight-week cold lagering period renders the profile exceptionally clean and crisp, allowing the spicy and floral notes of traditional German hops to shine through without interference. This amber-hued ale finishes remarkably dry, offering a complex yet eminently drinkable character that honors its historic Rhenish heritage with modern precision.
Appearance. Deep copper to bronze-orange (12–15 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, creamy, and long-lasting off-white head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to moderately-high malt intensity featuring rich notes of toasted bread crusts, nutty accents, and grainy sweetness. Hop aroma is low to moderate, displaying a spicy and floral character. Fermentation is very clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, bready malt complexity quickly met by a firm, assertive bitterness. Flavors of toasted grain and light nuttiness dominate the mid-palate, while the hop flavor contributes a peppery, spicy edge. The finish is clean, dry, and well-attenuated, with a lingering bitterness that invites another sip.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, well-conditioned texture. Carbonation is medium-high, contributing to a crisp and refreshing palate. Very low to no astringency; no noticeable alcohol warmth.
