Mike Stevens y Dave Engbers tenían puestos de trabajos estables cuando decidieron perseguir sus sueños y abrir una fábrica de cerveza, lo que significó preparar un plan de negocios, dejar sus trabajos y conseguir grandes préstamos. Después de algunos desafíos iniciales, Founders estuvo al borde de la bancarrota. Fue en este punto cuando el equipo original decidió cambiar y comenzó a elaborar el tipo de cerveza que más los entusiasmaba: cervezas complejas con mucho sabor, aroma y cuerpo. Entonces tomaron la determinación de que si vas a vivir la vida, debes vivirla sin remordimiento. En Founders Brewing Co. han tenido la suerte de resurgir de las cenizas y convertirse en una de las marcas craft más reconocidas en los Estados Unidos.
