Space Goggles is an indulgent Imperial Stout that masterfully captures the essence of a Prague Trdelník chimney cake. A complex base of specialty malts provides a foundation of dark chocolate and deep roast, while conditioning on roasted almonds adds a toasted, nutty richness. The aromatic profile is elevated by the floral sweetness of Madagascar vanilla beans and the earthy, decadent depth of Ugandan cocoa nibs. Mexican cinnamon introduces a subtle, warming spice that complements the beer’s 12.5% ABV. The addition of astronaut ice cream contributes a unique creamy sweetness, resulting in a thick, syrupy profile that balances heavy dessert notes with a classic roasty finish.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). The beer pours with a dense, dark brown head that exhibits moderate retention. Due to high viscosity and alcohol, prominent legs are visible on the glass when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and espresso. Prominent Madagascar vanilla and toasted almond notes dominate, supported by earthy Ugandan cocoa nibs and a distinct woody Mexican cinnamon spice. Low dark fruit esters of fig and prune are present, alongside a smooth, clean alcohol warmth.
Taste. An initial impression of intense sweetness and rich malt complexity. Flavors of bittersweet chocolate, heavy roast, and caramel meld with roasted almond and creamy vanilla. The Mexican cinnamon provides a mid-palate spice that cuts through the thick body, while the Ugandan cocoa nibs add a lingering fudge-like character. Bitterness is moderate but serves to balance the high residual sugar. The finish is long and sweet with a comforting alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, viscous, and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, providing a pleasant glow without being harsh or solventy.
