This decadent Imperial Milk Stout showcases a masterfully layered sensory profile derived from eighteen months of maturation in Weller barrels. The primary aromatic impact is dominated by a bespoke blend of Mostra coffee beans, offering notes of dark roast and earthy espresso, which harmonize with the fudge-like richness of assorted cocoa nibs. On the palate, the inclusion of lactose provides a luxurious, velvety texture that carries deep flavors of bittersweet chocolate, bourbon-soaked vanilla, and caramelized sugars. The extended aging period integrates the 14% ABV into a refined warmth, rounding out the dense malt character with charred oak and a lingering mocha finish.
Appearance. Opaque, midnight black (40+ SRM) with a dense, creamy, mocha-colored head that exhibits excellent retention and thick, oily lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of freshly ground coffee and rich dark chocolate. Significant barrel influence provides secondary notes of bourbon, vanilla, and toasted oak. Background malt scents of molasses and toasted bread are present, with no detectable hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression is intensely sweet and rich. Deep flavors of roasted Mostra coffee and dark cocoa nibs are balanced by the creamy sweetness of lactose. The Weller barrel aging contributes complex layers of vanilla, caramel, and a hint of coconut. Bitterness is low to moderate, primarily derived from roasted grains rather than hops, leading to a long, warming, and sweet finish of espresso and oak.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and extremely viscous with a thick, coating mouthfeel. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present. High creaminess with no perceived hop or husk astringency.
