Coracoid is an opulent American Strong Ale that showcases the art of the blend, merging double-barrel-aged English Barleywine with bourbon-barrel Imperial Stout. This 14% ABV titan leads with a luxurious aroma of vanilla-soaked sherry and cured pipe tobacco. On the palate, a dense foundation of dark, sticky fruits—reminiscent of chocolate-covered raisins and rich figgy jam—intertwines with deep bourbon warmth. While the majority of the blend draws from the barleywine side, the stout contributions add essential notes of dark chocolate and leather. The result is a complex, velvety masterpiece with a lingering, spirituous finish that bridges old-world tradition and modern intensity.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to nearly opaque dark brown (35-40 SRM). A thin, creamy, tan head forms with moderate persistence, eventually receding to a fine collar that leaves viscous legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of dark fruit including raisins and figs with rich malt character of toffee and caramel. Significant barrel influence provides scents of vanilla, toasted oak, and bourbon. Secondary notes of tobacco, dark chocolate, and a vinous, sherry-like oxidation add immense complexity.
Taste. Deeply complex and malt-forward; initial flavors of sweet figgy jam and chocolate-covered raisins transition into toasted oak and cured tobacco. Moderate hop bitterness provides balance against the massive malt sweetness and high alcohol content. The finish is long and warming, with persistent notes of vanilla-soaked fruit and a touch of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Full, viscous, and velvety body. Low to medium-low carbonation. Significant alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and well-integrated, avoiding harshness. Very creamy texture with no detectable astringency.
