The palate follows suit, offering a thick, velvet-like texture where bittersweet chocolate meets the oily sweetness of shredded coconut and the savory nuttiness of roasted hazelnuts. At 12% ABV, a smooth, integrated alcohol warmth bolsters the dark fruit esters of plum and raisin, leading into a lingering, bittersweet finish of charred malt and espresso. It is a harmonious, dessert-forward experience with immense depth and complexity.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, creamy, dark tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident in the slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a complex blend of bittersweet cocoa, toasted coconut, and roasted hazelnuts. Deep roasted malt notes of espresso and dark chocolate are supported by moderate esters of dried plums and raisins. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth.
Taste. Intense and multi-layered, beginning with sweet chocolate and oily coconut. The mid-palate transitions to savory hazelnut and heavily roasted malt. Bitterness is moderate-high but balanced by significant residual sweetness and adjunct character. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of charred grain and nuttiness.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, luscious, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A distinct, pleasant alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or solventy.
