This Double IPA from Foam Brewers offers a lush, contemporary sensory profile defined by the synergistic trio of Citra, Nelson, and Galaxy hops. The addition of oats and lactose departs from traditional style expectations, providing a velvety, creamy mouthfeel that carries intense notes of candied orange rind and crushed pineapple. Nelson hops add a subtle vinous complexity, while Galaxy provides a punchy tropical depth. The palate is balanced by a firm bitterness and a characteristically dank finish. This is a powerful, well-integrated ale where the significant alcohol is masked by a soft, pillowy body and vibrant fruit-forward hop saturation.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange with a hazy, opaque appearance. Topped with a thick, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring tropical passionfruit, white grape, and zesty citrus. A subtle, sweet creaminess from the lactose is present, supported by a neutral, bready malt back-end and a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of ripe pineapple and candied orange. The mid-palate displays a resinous, dank hop character that provides contrast to the residual sweetness of the lactose. Bitterness is firm and moderately high, but rounded by the oats. Finishes with a lingering tropical fruitiness and a clean, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a silky, creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but lacks any harsh or solventy edges.
