This bold Double IPA is a sensory expansion, leading with an intense barrage of grapefruit and citrus driven by Amarillo and Summit hops. The massive hop profile, fortified by the Falconer’s Flight blend and Columbus, unveils underlying tropical and spicy nuances. Beneath the aggressive 102 IBU bitterness lies a soft, pronounced core of caramel malt that balances the turbulent, effervescent mouthfeel. Glowing with an intense gold hue, the beer offers a smooth but potent warmth from its 10% ABV. The result is a complex, high-gravity experience where earthy and resinous hop notes orbit a lingering, clean, and powerfully bitter finish.
Appearance. Intense gold color (8-10 SRM) with brilliant clarity and visible effervescence. Supports a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with resilient lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by grapefruit, citrus zest, and tropical fruit. Secondary notes of resinous pine, spice, and damp earth are present. A low, clean caramel malt sweetness provides a supportive background, with a noticeable but smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of citrus and grapefruit peel. Very high bitterness is assertive but lacks harshness, balanced by a medium-low supportive caramel malt character. Mid-palate reveals tropical fruit and peppery spice. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a long, lingering resinous and bitter aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. High carbonation creates a lively, effervescent sensation. Notable alcohol warmth is present and well-integrated, without any significant hop-derived astringency.
