This American Stout presents a bold and assertive sensory profile, defined by a mega lovely balance of aggressive roasting and vibrant American hops. On the nose, intense aromas of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate are accented by a persistent citrusy and resiny hop presence. The palate is dominated by deep-seated flavors of dark cocoa and charred grain, supported by a firm, resinous bitterness that cuts through the medium-full, creamy body. A clean, smooth finish carries a hint of grapefruit zest and lingering espresso notes, making for a robust yet approachable dark ale that celebrates New World intensity.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 35-40) with a large, persistent, light tan to medium-brown head that leaves dense lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity roast featuring espresso and dark chocolate. Medium-low hop aroma with distinct citrus and resinous notes. Very low fruity esters; no diacetyl or sharp acidity.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and roasted with flavors of bittersweet chocolate and toasted coffee grounds. Medium-low caramel sweetness is balanced by a firm hop bitterness and citrusy hop flavor. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, smooth roasted character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, velvety texture. Medium-high carbonation. Light, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being hot. Very low roast-derived astringency.
