This English Barley Wine presents a decadent, multi-layered profile shaped by twelve months in Jack Daniels barrels and a finishing rest on dried apricots. A rich foundation of caramel and toffee malt provides a chewy, "loud" core that supports the spiritous complexity of bourbon-soaked oak. High intensity aromas of vanilla and woody spice meld seamlessly with the concentrated sweetness of the fruit. The addition of dried apricots elevates the typical dark-fruit esters, adding a bright stone-fruit character to the deep, vinous layers of raisin and plum. At 11.5% ABV, it offers a plush, warming finish that lingers with velvety sweetness.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with brilliant clarity and rich ruby highlights. A thin, creamy off-white head shows low retention, quickly receding to a persistent collar. Significant viscosity is evident through prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and complex. A dominant malty base of toffee and bread crust is layered with strong notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and bourbon. Pronounced fruitiness features concentrated dried apricots alongside deeper notes of raisins and figs. Hop aroma is very low, masked by malt and wood.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich, malty sweetness with deep caramel and biscuit flavors. The middle palate is defined by the distinctive tang of dried apricots and a spicy, barrel-derived vanilla character. Hop bitterness is moderate, providing just enough balance to the heavy malt. The finish is long and warming, with an aftertaste of dark fruit, wood tannin, and refined spirits.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, prominent alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity without being harsh or fusel.
