This indulgent Imperial Stout, a collaboration between Fierce Beer and Tartarus Beers, presents a decadent sensory profile reminiscent of raw cookie dough. A heavy addition of toasty oats creates a bready, thick foundation for rich cacao and warming spices to shine. At 8.4% ABV, the beer offers a smooth, integrated warmth that supports the sweet, malt-forward character. Aromas of milk chocolate and vanilla-like spice lead into a velvety, chewy palate where the bitterness serves to balance the significant residual sugar. The experience concludes with a lingering, dessert-like finish and a soft, spice-driven complexity that highlights the brewer's indulgent intent.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Pours with a dense, persistent deep tan head that shows moderate retention and leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with dominant notes of milk chocolate, cacao, and toasty oats. Moderate spicy notes suggesting vanilla or cinnamon are present, alongside subtle dark fruit esters like raisin. Alcohol is detectable but smooth and not sharp.
Taste. Strong initial impression of sweet malt, chocolate, and toasty bread. The cacao and spices provide a complex, cookie-like flavor profile. Hop bitterness is moderate but subordinate to the rich malt and adjunct sweetness. The finish is lingering and sweet with a decadent cocoa aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture driven by the use of oats. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated.
