Fidens Brewing Co

The Merchant is a vibrant Double IPA showcasing a saturated blend of Strata, Citra, Nelson, Riwaka, and Galaxy hops. It opens with an explosive bouquet of passion fruit, white grape, and bright tangerine. The palate is dominated by layered tropical fruit and a distinctive resinous dankness from the Strata, balanced by the crushed gooseberry notes of Nelson and the zesty punch of Riwaka. At 8.5% ABV, a smooth, well-integrated warmth supports a soft, pillowy malt backbone. This beer concludes with a clean, firm bitterness that emphasizes its modern hop character over malt sweetness.

Appearance. SRM 6-8. Deep gold to light orange; hazy with a moderate-sized, persistent, creamy white head that provides thick lacing.

Aroma. Intense hop aroma featuring complex tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit), citrus (grapefruit, lime), and a distinct resinous dankness. Supportive, clean, neutral-grainy maltiness in the background; low fruity esters and a subtle, clean alcohol note.

Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors of pineapple, gooseberry, and citrus zest. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks harshness. Soft, unobtrusive malt character supports the hop saturation. Finishes dry to medium-dry with a lingering, resinous, and fruity hop aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Features a restrained, smooth alcohol warmth without any hop-derived astringency.
