Nan’s Axe is a masterfully executed West Coast Double IPA that balances aggressive hop saturation with a lean, crisp finish. The aromatic profile is dominated by the multi-layered influence of Mosaic and Mosaic DynaBoost, delivering deep notes of blueberry and dank resin. Citra Cryo provides a concentrated burst of bright grapefruit and lemon zest, while Simcoe and Amarillo contribute layers of classic pine needles and juicy orange oil. Despite its strength, the beer remains exceptionally dry and drinkable, featuring a supportive yet neutral malt backbone that allows the hop-derived bitterness to shine. It is a bold, modern interpretation defined by precision and intense lupulin character.

Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (7 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a tall, persistent, off-white head that leaves thick, sticky lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, dank pine, and tropical mango. A berry-like sweetness and citrus zest character are underscored by a low, clean, crackery malt background. Very low neutral esters with a hint of clean ethanol.

Taste. Initial impression is a punch of citrus and resinous hop flavor. Strong notes of orange peel, pine sap, and blueberry emerge. Bitterness is high and firm but lacks harshness, balanced by a minimal, grainy malt sweetness. The finish is very dry and crisp with a long-lasting, resinous aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily hop texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a refreshing prickle. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth without any harsh astringency.

Sensory Profile.
