This Double IPA presents an intense sensory experience, driven by a heavy-handed application of Citra and El Dorado Lupomax hops. The nose is greeted by a saturated tropical bouquet of ripe pineapple, mango, and bright grapefruit. On the palate, the El Dorado Lupomax delivers concentrated stone fruit and melon flavors, while the Citra provides a sharp citrus backbone. Despite its 9.5% ABV, the beer remains remarkably drinkable, finishing dry with a clean, supportive graininess. The bitterness is firm yet refined, lacking any harshness, and is balanced by a subtle, smooth alcohol warmth that highlights the beer's strength without overshadowing the vibrant hop character.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper in color with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head. The beer exhibits a slight haze consistent with modern interpretations but retains a luminous quality.
Aroma. High to intense hop aroma featuring vivid pineapple, mango, and pear from the El Dorado, complemented by the signature grapefruit and lime zest of Citra. A neutral, grainy malt sweetness sits in the background, supported by a clean fermentation profile and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. A powerful burst of tropical fruit and resinous hop flavors leads the palate. The bitterness is high but smooth, avoiding any vegetal or harsh qualities. A low, clean, and soft malt character provides a platform for the hops without adding caramel weight. The finish is dry with a lingering hop bitterness and a clean aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture and medium-high carbonation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, remaining restrained and devoid of any harsh astringency.
