Fermentage Orange De Marvila

Other Styles 4.5 º 20 IBU
Orange De Marvila is a nuanced Grape Ale that bridges the gap between a Belgian Patersbier and Portuguese viticulture. Baga Grapes undergo carbonic maceration, imbuing the beer with vibrant berry notes and a unique menthol touch derived from the eucalyptus-shrouded vineyards of Bairrada. Fermentation with a Belgian yeast strain adds a delicate spicy complexity, while aging in Alvarinho barrels introduces subtle wood and crisp white wine acidity. The result is a bright, orange-hued hybrid that remains refreshing and exceedingly dry, showcasing the terroir of Luzia’s vines through a refined, low-ABV frame that balances beer and wine characteristics.
Appearance. Deep orange-copper (8-10 SRM) with brilliant clarity. A thin, off-white head displays moderate retention and leaves light, fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate intensity with high grape aromatics featuring red berries and a distinctive, cooling menthol and eucalyptus note. Subtle spicy phenols from the Belgian yeast mingle with light cracker-like malt. Faint notes of toasted oak and bright acidity from the Alvarinho barrel influence.
Taste. Initial impression is crisp and vinous. Baga grape flavors offer rustic berry notes, followed by a refreshing mentholated eucalyptus streak. The malt base provides a light, grain-sweet supportive character. Hop bitterness is very low, allowing a mild tartness to enhance the dryness. The finish is short and exceptionally clean, with a lingering hint of white wine tannins.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, sparkling carbonation that emphasizes the aromatics. Alcohol warmth is negligible. Very smooth with a slight, pleasant astringency from the grape skins and barrel aging.

"Our 2025 grape ale has taken a diferent direction. We started did carbonic maceration of the grapes. These grapes are Baga Grapes from Bairrada (from our friend from Luzia), taken from a vineyard surrounded by eucalyptus. This particular terroir bring some nice menthol to the game. The beer itself was fermented with a belgium strain, a patersbier style.
The "wine" and grapes were blended with the beer and then it was aged in a Alvarinho barrel, from the Green Wine region.
Result is a clear hybrid of wine and beer, orange in color, and so it become Orange de Marvila!"
