This Imperial Baltic Porter, a collaboration between Fauve and Põhjala, offers a deep, nocturnal sensory experience. The high-gravity base provides a foundation of rich dark chocolate, molasses, and licorice. The addition of Estonian spruce tips introduces a unique resinous, piney top note that cuts through the dense malt. Wild blueberry and blackberry infuse the profile with a concentrated dark fruit intensity, complementing the style’s natural plum and prune esters. It is smooth and warming at 10% ABV, balancing luscious malt sweetness with a subtle woodsy bitterness and a lingering, berry-inflected finish that remains clean and sophisticated.

Appearance. Opaque dark brown with deep mahogany highlights at the edges. Topped by a thick, persistent, creamy tan head that leaves dense lacing.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by rich, toasty malt notes of dark chocolate and molasses, intertwined with forest-like aromas of resinous spruce tips. Pronounced dark fruit esters of black currant and prune are enhanced by fresh, jammy scents of wild blueberry and tart blackberry. Complex, clean alcohol presence with a hint of vinous character.

Taste. Initial impression is of luxurious, malty sweetness featuring caramel and nutty complexity. Mid-palate reveals deep layers of blackberry and blueberry, providing a slight fruity acidity. The spruce tips contribute a distinct herbal, piney flavor that prevents the 10% ABV from feeling cloying. Smooth roasted flavors of coffee and licorice emerge toward the finish, which is long and warming with a balanced, medium-low bitterness.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to maintain drinkability. Significant, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present throughout, reflecting its imperial strength without being harsh or fusel.

Pour faire honneur à cette superbe collab', on a fait un Imperial Baltic Porter aux bourgeons d’épicéa récoltés à la main au printemps en Estonie par l’équipe Põhjala. On a aussi ajouté de la myrtille sauvage et de la mûre sur cette bière à la robe bien noire...

Ça part un peu dans tous les sens, oui, on l'admet. Mais c'est une bière de collab', donc c'est comme ça. Et pis fé tout.

Et honnêtement, le résultat est top. Alors terviseks ! (cheers en estonien)
