This American IPA pays homage to Louisiana’s citrus heritage by infusing over 100 pounds of juicy Satsumas into a vibrant, hop-forward profile. The 7.2% ABV base provides a sturdy, clean canvas for the bright citrus zest and sweet mandarin notes of the fruit to shine. This is expertly balanced by a heavy dose of Amarillo and Azacca hops, which introduce layers of grapefruit, tropical mango, and subtle floral undertones. A clean, supporting malt presence ensures the finish is crisp and refreshing, reminiscent of sun-drenched afternoons. It captures a nostalgic citrus burst while maintaining the firm bitterness and dryish finish expected of the style.
Appearance. Medium gold with a faint orange hue and a slight haze from the fruit addition. Features a medium-sized, off-white head with good persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop and fruit aroma. Dominant notes of fresh Satsuma orange zest and sweet mandarin are bolstered by tropical mango and pineapple from Azacca hops. Amarillo contributions add floral and grapefruit scents. Low, clean, grainy maltiness supports the fruit-forward presentation with a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of juicy Satsuma citrus followed by tropical stone fruit and resinous hop flavors. Moderate-high bitterness is well-integrated, balanced by a low, clean, toasted grain malt backbone. Amarillo provides a distinct grapefruit pith finish. The aftertaste is hoppy and bitter with lingering citrus oils and a clean, dryish finish.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly slick texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, without any harshness or astringency.
