This massive Imperial Stout delivers a decadent sensory experience, defined by its maturation in Stauning Whisky barrels. The aroma is dominated by heady whisky, toasted oak, and rich vanilla, layered over a deep base of espresso and dark chocolate driven by Carafa Special III and Chocolate Malt. On the palate, Munich Malt and Pale Ale Malt provide a sturdy, bready foundation supporting flavors of campfire smoke and molasses. Despite the use of Northern Brewer hops, the bitterness remains restrained, allowing the warmth of the 12.3% ABV and the barrel’s vanillins to take center stage. The finish is long, velvety, and luxuriously sweet.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity creates persistent legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with prominent Stauning Whisky notes of grain and light peat. Deep roast character of freshly ground coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Oak-derived vanilla and a touch of coconut. Very low herbal hop aroma. Clean fermentation with minimal esters.

Taste. Initial impression of rich, dark malt sweetness and warming whisky. Layers of Chocolate Malt and Carafa Special III provide cocoa and roasted coffee beans. The Stauning Whisky barrels contribute oak, vanilla, and a hint of char. Low bitterness for the style allows a malt-forward balance. The finish is long and warming with a lingering coffee aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. Prominent, smooth alcohol warmth is well-integrated.
