Fanø Bryghus Imperial Forår is a decadent and robust Doppelbock that elevates the traditional spring release to "Imperial" heights. The sensory experience is dominated by a deep, rich maltiness characterized by intense toffee and layers of dried fruits like plums and raisins. These Maillard-driven notes provide a sturdy backbone that elegantly balances the substantial 9.4% alcohol content. On the palate, the beer displays a smooth, velvety character with significant depth, emphasizing toasted bread and dark sugar over any hop presence. It concludes with a warming, sophisticated finish that highlights its complex malt architecture and clean lager fermentation.
Appearance. Dark copper to deep brown with brilliant ruby highlights when held to the light. It supports a large, creamy, and persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of rich, toasted malt and sweet toffee. Pronounced dark fruit esters reminiscent of prunes and fruit leather. A moderate, clean alcohol presence is noticeable but well-integrated, with virtually no hop aroma.
Taste. Initially very rich and malty-sweet. Dominant flavors of toffee and deeply toasted malt, complemented by dark grapes and dried fruit. Hop bitterness is low to moderately low, serving only to prevent cloying, while the finish is moderately dry with lingering malt richness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and smooth with a creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-low, providing a gentle prickle. A noticeable but pleasant alcohol warmth glows in the chest without any harshness or fusel burn.
